How do they influence our project ?

These films will influence our group by using ideas such as diasters causing death from FINAL DESTINATION and THE KNOWING. The troubled child writing on paper is from THE KNOWING and finally having the concept of the young girl being a villian and gaining sympathy from the audience which is from THE RING.


What common themes do these films have?

They have the theme of teenage morality, having a hidden story as why they are looking for revenge and lastly over coming evil.

How do these films create narrative "enigmas" for the audience?

The audience never see the characters face which raises questions such as who are they?, what do they look like ? and is it a boy or girl. Also why do they want revenge ?

How does this appeal to the audience?

Teenagers can tend to be bitchy and agressive so teenagers sometimes want revenge on that person who have been mean to them. An audience wants to know everything about the main character in a film they are watching, so our audience wanting to know who is the character and what they are about is nothing out of the norm.

Conventions

Narrative convention - Teenager previously being bullied and now wants revenge, innocent people dying.

Character conventions - Having the hidden face and creating a mystery. The villian being a young person. The villian also being the victim.

Typical iconography - Dim and low key lighting to create an unsettling atmosphere. Typical teenage clothing to give a realistic out look to the audience and the victim/villian being an average,normal child.

Camerashot conventions - Using close ups and long shots to show 'the obvious' and to not give away too much; creating a sense of enigma and teasing the audience.

Editing conventions - Fast pace cutting making the audience uncomfortable and lack of continuity to create suspense.

Casting conventions - Long dark hair, normal looking girl (not too scrufy and not too pretty)

Sound conventions - Eerie and unsettling sounds, scratching/screeching irritating sound effects and echoes to create an atomsphere that the audience feel uncomfortable.



The Knowing Teaser trailer.

Voice over.
Introduction of main characters and showing loving relationships which is typical of a horror film. Establishing a connection between two people usaully being the main character and sommebody else. In this particular trailer, it is father and son, the Mother of the family has passed away. Fathers occupation is shown, it doesn’t give away the narrative but informs audience with some background information and giving the impression that the film maybe a sci-fi film.
The setting shows what time frame the film is set in due to showing modern technology. Shows some of the narrative but leaves it on a cliffhanger. It shows several parts of the narative without connecting it together so it makes the audience want to see the rest of the film. Not so much of a teaser trailer because its much longer that a teaser trailer and gives away more than a teasear trailer would.
