How does the product represent particular social groups ?

Within social groups we wanted to present multi-cultral enviroment in a positive way, we focused on doing this through the casting by having a mixture of black and white actors playing our characters. The picture above shows a white family and how they are conventionally potrayed. To make this more effective we added traditional fantasy-like music and added props such as the young girls teddy and story book. In stero-typical fantasy film people expect the music, props and white family to open the film, we challenged this by including black characters. The costumes we didn't want to make them too outrageous or glamourous, we wanted them to fit with the setting and character so the white family had there simple dressing gown and the traditional pink nightwear and the black character with a more urban, street wear such as jeans, hoody and jacket and perhaps a bit more colour to it, overall we kept to the conventions of costume but developed a bit futher for them to be noticed.

Our group look at forms and conventions of media products by analysing the begining of fantasy and comedy films , within the fantasy genre we chose to look at shrek, enchanted and hoodwinked , shrek had a fairytale theme song, a typical story book being opened and told about a princess being locked in a tower. The princess being locked in a tower, we took this convention and modernised it by having the character locked up in her bedroom. this was ideal because it still was appealing to our audience and giving us impression of your bedroom being a prison and somewhere that you go when your in trouble. We used some other conventions like having the main characters names in the beginning of the film to show that we are being professional and neat.
